Oregon Cherry Growers, one of the top fruit packaging companies in the U.S., is seeking a Production Superintendent for its production facility (Downtown location) in The Dalles, Oregon.
This facility is involved in the finished goods manufacturing of fruit; including brining, pitting, infusion, and drying. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the operations of the Downtown facility including production, maintenance, labor relations, safety, quality, cost/budget, and compliance with both governmental regulations and company policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees the daily operation of the facilities and directs functions through production, maintenance, sanitation, and shipping managers.
Monitors and reports labor cost, yields, materials, and utilities on a weekly basis.
Provides a safe and positive work environment for all employees; ensure employees are current with safety training.
Drives continuous improvement projects and activities to improve safety, quality and productivity of operations.
Drives continuous improvement projects and activities to control and reduce operating costs.
Ensures the development and implementation of a plant wide preventative maintenance program.
Ensures all products are stocked and maintained at appropriate inventory levels to meet sales needs.
Introduces new systems and makes needed modifications to old systems to improve efficiencies.
Manages labor relations issues within the workforce; partners with HR to administer disciplinary actions in accordance with our union contract and policies.
Conducts plant tours and assists with regulatory and independent audits.
Works with Corporate Planning Manager on production scheduling.
Investigates customer complaints and provides relevant information to technical services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Direct reports may include Production Supervisors, Maintenance and Warehouse Management. Indirectly supervises all production employees at the Downtown production facility.
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Operation Management or related field;
Five or more years of progressive management experience in food industry/manufacturing environment;
Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task, manage concurrent responsibilities and meet established timelines;
Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with others at all levels internally and externally;
Excellent communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and safety.
Proficient in MS Office; Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.
Strong problem solving skills and ability to effectively handle conflict/stressful situations.
Experience working in a unionized environment a plus.
Bilingual (Spanish speaking) a plus.
Frequent physical activity includes sitting, walking, climbing stairs, hearing, talking, operating a keyboard, color identification, close and far vision. Moderate physical activity includes standing, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, touching, gripping, climbing ladders, and operating a lift truck.
