Engineering & Maintenance Manager

Oregon Cherry Growers, one of the top fruit packaging companies in the U.S., is seeking an Engineering & Maintenance Manager at its Production Facility in The Dalles, OR.

This position will ensure the efficient operation of our Downtown and Riverside plants through safety measures, effective maintenance procedures, and cost control.  This position will manage the operation and maintenance of all processing equipment at both plants.  Incumbent will develop annual capital expenditure budget and will maintain an adequate inventory of quality materials. This exempt position will report directly to the Regional Operations Manager.


  • Maintain all buildings and evaluate needed repairs.
  • Maintain, rebuild, modify and improve all equipment.
  • Manage the maintenance shop, parts/materials inventory and staff.
  • Manage the preventive maintenance program to reduce down-time.
  • Specify and procure new and used equipment.
  • Layout and design new equipment and production lines.
  • Continuously improve reliability and performance of all existing equipment.
  • Manage overhead budgets and create/manage capital project budgets.
  • Troubleshoot break downs and specify needed repairs.
  • Oversee and participate in safety programs/committees.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and experience working in the food/manufacturing industry or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering/production coordination and planning.
  • Must have budget and planning skills and knowledge of costing systems.
  • Computer skills required with experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet established timelines.
  • Experience with manufacturing and production line equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English (speak, read, and write) with plant management, supervision and department personnel.
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to communicate with vendors and contractors from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to bring projects from concept to completion.
